Blue Chai Hamsa Pendant

This unique wooden pendant was hand-decorated with pyrography, a technique which burns designs into wood. The hamsa hand with a blue nazar in its palm represents protection against the ayin ha'ra, or "evil eye". The Hebrew word chai repeated in the background means "alive" and represents not just life itself, but the perseverance of the Jewish people through thousands of years of adversity.

The blue colour was applied with a technique in which ink is applied to the wood, which is then washed repeatedly over the course of several days. All that remains is the stain, which ensures that the colour will not run in the future if it gets wet.
